Iya kneel has an eclectic and definitive style that streams from different musical genres. His
repertoire ranges from spoken word, to rap and singing. He began his musical journey
exploring various styles and the roots of African and Reggae music. Growing up in the
Jamaica, the heart of Reggae, his interest was evoked by the drums and chants of the
Iya kneel has developed his own style as an artist and musician nurtured in Rastafari and
guided by the wisdom of his elders. Revering and sharing this wisdom and growing in his
love for Rastafari, he has mastered the art of the burru/akete drumming style, and is also an
astounding Djembe player. He uses his skills to create music that heals the soul and guides
his audience’s hearts and minds to a place of joy, peace and reflection.
A true craftsman and talented lyricist, inspired and influenced by artists such as Fela-kuti and
the great Bob Marley, he has created well-known songs such as `Loving Jah` in which he
spreads his love for life and music, delivering a soothing inimitable sound. As a member of
the Subajah Family band, Iya kneel has supported a variety of artists such as, Dawn Penn,
Natty and Tippa Irie.
Iya kneel is a dynamic and ever evolving artist, whose music does not only promote spiritual
awareness, but also a consciousness (a way to be). His journey continues with each inspiring
note he plays as he walks his musical path.
